HKWR Opening Times

We are open on Sundays from March to the end of October 2024. Opening hours are 10.30 to 4pm with trains running 3 times per hour with the last train at 3.40pm.Check our Bookings page. We are also open some Saturdays but check our website for details.

We are also open for maintenance work ONLY on Tuesdays and Thursdays March to November 10am to 4pm. If you wish to visit us as a contractor or for some other business-related reason, this is by appointment only.

Directions

By Road

Using Sat Nav TW13 7ND or google maps TW13 6XH, access to our site is via a driveway off Snakey Lane. Enter through the open gate marked “Museum Entrance” and drive 0.75 miles to the car park. The Railway is located on the right of Kempton Steam Museum, with main parking on the left.

If approaching from the south and west on the M3 or A316, take the first slip road off the A316 after the end of the M3 and follow the brown signs – first exit (sign-posted to Lower Feltham) off the roundabout under the A316, first exit at next roundabout (Snakey Lane) then next left – following the brown signs.

If approaching from the east on the A316 take the slip road off when you see the Twin Chimneys of the Kempton Park Pumping Station on your left down to the roundabout and take the third exit into Snakey Lane, first exit at the next roundabout (Snakey Lane), then next left – following the brown signs as above. If using a SatNav please ensure that your directions are via Snakey Lane.

Entrance to the left, ignore the red light.

As the railway is situated on Thames Water land, please bear in mind that if you are coming to visit us outside public days (see above), it is essential that you let us know in advance for security reasons. Access can be made via the main gate using the intercom system. Once through the gate, drive 0.75 miles to the car park and you will see our Ticket Office and railway on the right.

By Taxi

On operational railway days, taxis can enter through the Museum gate and drive to the museum. To exit, taxis will be able to safely approach the black automatic gates and exit. If a taxi drops you at the main gate, please remember the walk to the railway is 0.75 (20 minutes walk).

By underground

Nearest station is Hatton Cross on the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow. Alight at Hatton Cross and take the H25 bus, see “By Bus” below.

By Rail

The nearest Network Rail Station is Kempton Park, served by South Western Railway, Shepperton Line out of Waterloo. Turn right leaving the station to Park Road and turn right (North) towards the A316. Turn right (North-East) along the A316 towards London. The twin chimneys of the Kempton Park Waterworks are ahead. Keep right going down, and then left, via the A316 pedestrian underpass: the pedestrian gate to the right is locked. On public open days a notice is displayed with details of how to gain access. Otherwise continue down the footpath to the roundabout, turn left, and enter via the main vehicle gate. Distance: 0.75 miles (20 minutes walk).

By Bus

The 290 goes between Twickenham and Staines. Alight at the roundabout (Feltham Junction) under the A316 and take Snakey Lane to the site following the Brown signs.

The H25 runs from Hatton Cross (nearest London Underground Station – Piccadilly Line) to Feltham and Hanworth. Get off at Sunbury Way (Stop VA) and follow the brown signs.

Don’t forget to let us know beforehand as you will need assistance to pass the security gate if it isn’t a public open day.
