Hampton Kempton Waterworks Railway (HKWR) recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary Celebration Gala Weekend

This event was a truly spectacular weekend for enthusiasts, families and everyone who loves railways and steam.

The star of the railway’s Gala Weekend (20/21 May 2023) was the *Thomas Wicksteed locomotive that opened the local community railway 10 years ago! The locomotive was kindly on loan from the London Museum of Water and Steam and volunteers worked hard over the last few weeks to ensure it made its grand appearance.

The public were able to gain access to all the HKWR steam and diesel rolling stock displays, as well as an exhibition of eleven model railways and much more. A sit-on miniature railway was also on show and working, that was a replica of the original 1903 locomotive that proved to be a great crowd pleaser.

HKWR is open every Sunday throughout the summer, and their next special event is their very popular Sci-fi Heroes Day on 11 June giving everyone an opportunity to dress as their favourite sci-fi character. Advance booking is highly recommended at HKWR Sci fi Heroes Day.
