Local Heritage Railway Reopens!

Hampton Kempton Waterworks Railway (HKWR) will reopen to the public on 26/27 June 2021 after being closed since March 2020.  But it hasn’t stopped volunteers from working at the railway during Covid-19 lockdowns.  Working under strict government guidelines, volunteers were able to carry out maintenance work to ensure their 1915 steam locomotive ‘Darent’ was ready for the public on reopening day.  They even managed to start work on laying the foundations for their new Coach Shed (with the help of a grant from Heathrow Community Fund) to house and maintain the railway’s rolling stock.  Volunteers also spent much of their time making sure the railway was safely maintained and Covid-19 compliant where appropriate. Open every Sunday 10.30am to 4pm throughout the summer, HKWR offers the local community train rides on ‘Darent’ as well as the opportunity to enjoy their picnic field with a play train.   All train tickets must be booked in advance through their website.  Visit www.hamptonkemptonrailway.org.uk for further information.
