Customer facing volunteering opportunities – help make a difference to your local community
Ticket Office/Platform Volunteer roles
HKWR is open to the public every Sunday from March to the end of October with our popular special fun events also taking place on some Saturdays and Sundays. It doesn’t matter about your background or experience as we offer training for all our roles, but you must be over 18 and probably enjoy engaging with the public. You’ll need to be available for one or two shifts per month on Sundays and occasional Saturdays 9am to 5pm but you can work a shift from 9am to 1.30pm or 1pm to 5pm.
Being part of our friendly team will help to make all our visitors have a great day! It’s also a very rewarding experience for our volunteers and one that makes a real difference to local families that visit us.
You may wish to work in the ticket office or on the platform or both. It’s entirely up to you. The duties involve:
- Setting up the ticket office
- Greeting customers
- Checking bookings/issuing tickets
- Processing payments
- Serving refreshments
- Escorting customers to the train
- Assisting passengers with special needs/requirements
- Ensuring safety of passengers on the train by closing doors/exiting the platform
