Social distancing will still need to be always maintained both outdoors around the site and on the train for you and our volunteers. By pre-booking your seats, we have been able to make sure that we do not exceed numbers and that seat space is properly maintained.
Unless you are medically exempt, or have children under the age of 11, face coverings must be worn on the platform and when boarding & alighting from the train. It’s also advisable to wear a face covering when moving around the railway site. All our volunteers will be wearing visors or masks.
Please follow the signs when entering the main gates, car parking or taking the pedestrian routes to HKWR. Volunteers will be on hand & one-way signs will indicate entry to and from the railway, leaving across our picnic field. Our NHS Covid-19 QR code signs and industry standard & consumer mark registration signs are displayed at various locations.
It’s always advisable to bring your own sanitisers but there are hand sanitiser stands around the site. Train carriages will be cleansed after every train journey, and frequent cleaning and inspections of toilet facilities will be carried out by our volunteers.
Please feel free to use our countryside picnic tables, always maintaining social distancing. The ‘Kempton Flyer’ toy train, however, will not be sanitised after use and it remains the responsibility of parents or guardians to decide whether children can play on this. The Ticket Office remains out of bounds for the public.

Do I need to pre book?
Yes, you must prebook via our Website. We are only selling tickets for whole compartments for a single family or bubble for up to 6 people including children.
How does the pricing system work?
The Family&Friends Compartment is £8, and you can book as many compartments as you wish.
What are the booking terms and conditions?
You can cancel up to 4pm on the previous day by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org . We will refund your Credit Card directly if you cancel before 4pm the previous day. See: Booking Terms & Conditions
Will I be able to obtain a refund if another lockdown occurs?
Yes, a full refund will be given by refunding to your credit card used at purchase of tickets.
Are there regular trains throughout the day?
Yes, every half hour from 10.30 until the last train at 3.30pm. See: Opening Times and Fares
Can I book at the Ticket Office?
No, and if you don’t have a ticket, you cannot travel on the train or visit the railway.
Can I print my ticket?
Please bring either a print of your ticket or an image on your phone so our volunteers can check your ticket.
Will there be any refreshments available?
As our café is closed, we will have a mobile refreshment facility.
Will the toilets be open?
Yes, and all toilets with nappy changing facilities that will be regularly sanitised by our volunteers.
Are there car parking facilities?
Yes, there is plenty of free parking, and you will be directed by our volunteers.
Do I need to wear a face covering at all times or only on the train?
No, only on the platform and when on the train, unless you are exempt along with children under 11.
I am a wheelchair user. Can I still visit?
HKWR warmly welcome all wheelchair users and our volunteers will assist you as we have a wheelchair ramp to board the train.
Is there a place where I can park a child’s buggy?
Yes, by the Ticket Office.
Can I bring a packed lunch?
Yes, but picnic tables will be socially distanced.
Is the picnic and play area with play train open?
Yes, but it is the responsibility of all parents/guardians to decide whether they allow children access to the play train as it will not be sanitised after use.
